I’ve visited libraries; I’ve visited schools.
I’ve read rhymes in book shops and in swimming pools,
In cinemas, ice rinks, on planes and on beaches,
On mountains, in forests, and swamps full of leeches,
On planets with names that are too hard to mention,
In far away galaxies and different dimensions,
In places that don’t, and will never exist,
In places so many (too many to list).
So I ask you to find me a place that you know
That I haven’t yet visited – give it a go -
And I’ll read you my rhymes, and I’ll read you some more,
Then you’ll laugh yourself silly and wee on the floor

Mike Lucas - Visits & Events

Saturday 25th February – Mike will be at Shakespeare’s Bookshop at Port Noarlunga from 10 o’clock onwards, reading poems from his new book, Things and Other Stuff. Come along and have some fun

NEWS - My new book, Things and Other Stuff, containing 99 new poems, will be released in January. I think it’s my best one yet and I had great fun writing it. I’m currently working on a novel

November 2011 - I visited Onkaparinga libraries with my informative and not very serious talk on Slugs, Slime and Poetry Time. There was a great turnout and the guest appearance of a brain in a jar and all the ingredients you need to make the perfect slime.

My first book, “A Load of New Nonsense,” has just been republished with illustrations. I’m now busy working on my fourth collection of poetry, “Things and Other Stuff,” which I’m hoping to have published before Christmas. This containsmy grossest poem yet! Is it too gross to keep in the book? Of course not!

25th August and 6th September - I was grateful to receive an invitation from SA Writers to be a Team Leader at the Young Writers’ Nights North and South where I met and worked with some real talent and some future published authors. Keep writing every day and flex those creative muscles.

August 22nd – August 26th 2011: Book Week - I had a wonderful week visiting schools and getting some great ideas for new poems. We also wrote some on a white board using a brain, a hand and some slug juice and spider gunk. Thanks to Willunga High School, Antonio Catholic School and Darlington Primary School for all the enthusiasm and participation

Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th June – Had some great fun inventing monsters and creating very original poems with the boys from John Morphett and Pimpala Primary Schools in conjunction with The Smith Family. A very worthy cause and some great people. What crazy monsters we made!

Tuesday 14th June – Mike was featured in the Southern Messenger about his writing and the state of the book industry

Thursday 21st April 2011 – Today I spent the morning reading at John Morphett Primary School. Thank you to Mr King and his class for helping me write a fabulous poem about two camels playing footy. I hope you had a great Easter and that the Easter camel brought you lots of Easter eggs.

Wednesday 2nd March 2011 – What a great time I had today! I read to year 5 at Woodcroft College. I arrived just in time due to a huge argument between a hundred duck sized elephants and one elephant sized duck who was blocking the road. Nevertheless, I did arrive and we all had a bucket full of laughs (quite a large bucket, too, with a lovely shiny handle and a place to rest a rather nice mop). Thank you to Mrs Casey and all of the children who made my day by being grossed out by some of my poems, but not enough to actually be sick.

3rd September 2010 – I visited Woodend Primary School and met a wonderful group called the Writers Of Woodend (WOW), who read me some of their fabulous poems and listened patiently to some of mine. I guarantee there are some future authors amongst them. Keep writing WOW!
